Our Guest Curator: Ron Finley of The Ron Finley Project

Ron Finley grew up in South Central Los Angeles, in a neighborhood where liquor stores outnumbered grocery stores and a bag of chips was easier to find than a head of lettuce. He called it what it was: a food prison. So in 2010, he grabbed some seeds and planted a vegetable garden in the dirt strip outside his home — city-owned land most people walked past without a second thought.

The city issued him a citation. He fought back, rallied his community, got the law changed, and a movement was born. His 2013 TED Talk spread like wildfire, and his message was simple and radical at once: growing your own food is an act of resistance.
Today Ron runs Finley Farms from that same South Central soil, turning neglected spaces into living food sources and showing a new generation that a seed in the ground is a stake in the future. This week, he's brought that energy into your box.

We're so proud to have Ron as our guest curator. A neighbor, a radical, and proof that a garden can change everything.

As we continue to build our farm network, we strive to collaborate with farms prioritizing growing practices focused on rehabilitation, conservation of native species, and transparency — Regenerative, Biodynamic, and beyond Organic principles that improve soil and water health and promote biodiversity. Each Farm Box purchase directly supports this network of farmers, earth-tenders, and producers. Flamingo Estate horticulturist Jeff Hutchison and Catherine Welch, of Windrose Farm, have teamed up to source the best ingredients from a diverse group of small, family-run farms to help nurture a network of thoughtful growers who help heal the planet with every harvest.

    Game changer

It’s truly like opening a treasure chest of incredible fruits and veggies (breads and treats). Something we look forward to every time it comes. Everything gets used and it feels like there is no fillers

    Gorgeous

I get so excited for Friday because I know I am getting my box filled with beautiful fruits and veggies. Everything is always really fresh so my husband and I have to plan out our week's cooking to use as much as possible. Highly recommend, it's instant happiness in a box.

A weekly win for our family

It's fun to see what's in the box each week, who's curating it, and to get inspired to cook what's in season. The quality is exceptional, and they support all the farms that I already love. I also have a garden and enjoy going to the farmers market, but this service saves me time when I'm having a busy week and can't get to the market.

After regularly ordering for the past few months, I've noticed that the person who packs our box writes our name on it and includes a smiley face. It's a small gesture, but always feels like a larger sign of generosity and care. The items are always arranged beautifully and with practical organization, ie potatoes on bottom, greens on top, berries tucked safely away from heavy items to avoid getting squished. There's something magical about opening the box on a Friday afternoon, with all of its beauty, deliciousness, and possibility. I just love it! Thank you!
