A hand-wrought brass tea service by Salvador Terán, inset with vivid orange glass mosaic tiles. Each piece is individually signed.
Terán was one of the important figures of Mexican Modernism, emerging from William Spratling’s celebrated Taxco workshop before helping establish Los Castillo and later creating his own distinctive body of work. His combination of warm hammered metal and jewel-like glass mosaic became unmistakably his own.
The orange glass makes this example particularly wonderful, glowing against the aged brass rather than disappearing into it. Richard purchased the set eleven years ago, and it has remained in his collection ever since.
