Chinese Export Green Fitzhugh Porcelain Collection, 34 Pieces
Thirty-four pieces of Chinese Export porcelain in the green Fitzhugh pattern, assembled from three separate auction lots and brought together here as a single collection.
Fitzhugh is one of the great patterns of Chinese Export porcelain, developed in the late 18th century and characterized by four dense groups of flowers and foliage arranged around a central medallion, surrounded by an intricate border. The pattern was produced in several colors; green became particularly associated with porcelain made for the Western, and especially American, market.
What makes this group particularly appealing is its scale and repetition: the same elaborate green decoration moving from cups and saucers across plates and larger forms. Rather than a single surviving piece, it has the presence of a service assembled over time.
The collection comprises 10 cups with 10 matching saucers, 11 plates, and 3 additional Fitzhugh pieces, for 34 pieces in total.
