Our Subscription Box began as a simple idea—something Richard originally put together for his family and a few close friends. It was a way to share what we were thinking about each season. But as time went on, more and more people asked for it, and we got more and more curious. We traveled to meet new collaborators and learn more about flavors and scents in different parts of the world, unencumbered by the pressures of scale or margins associated with other parts of the business machine.

Last year—in a turning point—we traveled to collaborate with farmers in Hawai‘i, Japan, and the Kingdom of Bhutan. But this season, we have a love letter to (and from) our neighbors in Mexico. But how do you fit the flavors of an entire country into one box? You can’t. So instead, we started with our favorite place: Mestiza de Indias, a 500-acre project in the Yucatán Peninsula run by my friend Gonzalo Samaranch. We’ve been working with him to save the endangered Melipona bee, and his farm was the perfect jumping-off point.

  • Dzidzilché Jungle Honey

Rare, delicious Honey harvested from Gonzalo’s farm in the Yucatán.

The inspiration for our new Seasonal Subscription Box began deep in the rainforest. Our friend Gonzalo Samaranch has built a botanical Noah’s Ark in the heart of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Hidden inside 500 acres of the thickest jungle imaginable, he created a sanctuary to cradle the rare and the endangered. Here, he protects heirloom seeds brought back from the brink of extinction, wild Vanilla vines, native bees, and the old Mayan ways of farming—turning that dense green tangle into a living, breathing project named Mestiza de Indias.

In the natural world, everything has a way of coming back around. This cyclical rhythm is the heartbeat of regenerative farming, and Mestiza de Indias is one of its most profound examples.

They practice a form of organic agriculture that acts as a bridge between eras, weaving together ancient Mayan stewardship and modern conservation techniques with the intent to recover lost species.

To honor this work, Flamingo Estate is using a portion of the funds from the Mexico Box to support a three-year project to save the sacred, stingless Melipona Bee. This new Bee Sanctuary will do more than just protect a species; it will employ the local community and ensure that Indigenous ecological knowledge is passed down to the next generation. The result will be a harvest of rare Honey we will share in late 2026—a sweet testament to patience and preservation.

( CHIRLA )

Proceeds will provide urgent legal defense for those facing ICE detention and deportation—protecting the
rights and families of the people who make our food
system possible.

CHIRLA is a Los Angeles–based nonprofit that works to advance the human, civil, and labor rights of immigrants and refugees. Since 1986 they have provided legal services, community education, civic engagement programs, and leadership development to the community.

( Melipona Bee Project )

The Mellipona Bee Project is a collaborative conservation and community-focused initiative rooted in the Yucatán Peninsula. Proceeds help support their mission to protect endangered Melipona stingless bees—ancient pollinators deeply tied to Mayan culture—by building sanctuaries and restoring traditional beekeeping practices.

The project supports ecological regeneration by creating pesticide-free bee habitats, teaching sustainable apiary skills, and engaging local women to lead honey-producing cooperatives that preserve cultural knowledge and generate economic opportunity.

The Ancestral Home of Flavor

VANILLA OLIVE OIL

Most of the world rushes vanilla. They use extracts, synthetics, or high heat to force flavor where it doesn't belong. We took the opposite approach.

We started with whole beans—both the classic Vanilla planifolia and the rare Vanilla pompona—gathered from smallholder farmers in Veracruz. Instead of a quick mix, we submerged them in our Extra Virgin Olive Oil and simply waited. By taking our time, we were able to pull out the heavy, complex notes that usually get lost in commercial processing.

The result is one of the most exquisite things we have ever bottled. It’s a little smoky, a little creamy, and feels completely luxurious in the mouth—with notes of ripe plum and cherry.

BANANA LEAF CANDLE

Housed in handmade terracotta, this is a living perfume of the tropics. Scented with Banana Leaf, Ylang Ylang, Clove, and Black Pepper, it is subtly creamy and green with a sparkling pop of spice. Each vessel is hand-poured into a terracotta votive crafted by an artisanal collective in Tonalá, Jalisco.

COFFEE SOAP BRICK

A labor of love that takes three months to make. We start with organic coffee beans roasted on a comal, slow-infused into our Olive Oil, and blended with Chocolate Clay, Amber, Clove, and Tobacco. Hand-cut into a generous brick, it looks and smells so delicious, it’s hard not to take a bite. It vigorously awakens the skin, nourishes deeply, and honors the ancient flavors of Mexico.

BANANA BALM

An antioxidant-rich balm that melts on contact for buttery-soft skin. Scented with Oaxacan Apple Banana, Violet Leaf, and Patchouli, it is radically nourishing.

MOLE NEGRO

Mole is Oaxaca’s culinary pride and a true labor of love. We were gifted this recipe by Blanca Carreno, the Queen of our kitchen and the best cook we know.

There is an intensity and power to its taste, made possible only by 24 different ingredients and days of preparation. The name Negro refers to the addition of dark roasted chiles and Cacao—an ingredient traditionally reserved for special occasions.

For our new Mexico Seasonal Box, Blanca has reimagined her mother’s famous recipe with a Flamingo Estate twist. It is deep, complex, and profoundly comforting. It is a true honor to include it, and we are so grateful to our reina de la cocina.

JUNGLE HONEY

Sacred Nectar. This is the Yucatán’s most emblematic honey. Harvested from the Gymnopodium floribundum tree, it is dark, intense, and untouched by agrochemicals. A taste of the pristine landscape, straight from the hive.

    Love this one.

This one was so great. There are some items in this box that I am sad are not available all the time. The vanilla olive oil is so good it is addicting. I would buy it and the body balm regularly if they were available. The honey is delicious and the candle and soap were also surprisingly some of my favorites. I have not used the mole yet but look forward to trying it. Thank you again for such a fun, useful collection of your concoctions. Every season I anticipate the arrival of this box withbita indulgent, inspiring ingredients.

    Muah, no notes!

Stunning curation of products! Wish the coffee soap bar, banana leaf balm, and banana candle were available permanently. Soap smells like fresh Earth and exfoliates incredibly well. Balm literally does *melt* into your skin. Banana leaf candle is the perfect ratio of plant to fruit. Honey is uniquely smoky. Have yet to try the vanilla olive oil and mole , but know they will live up to the standards of every other product from Flamingo Estate. Wonderful cause to support too—this sheds some well-deserved light on a beautiful region, its people, and what the land has to offer!

    Wow

As soon as the water hit the soap in this box, I knew I was hooked. I literally said "dang, they got me." Everything in the box is absolutely beautiful, and it feels good to support businesses who are actively working to preserve food and food culture.
