The Narcissus papyraceus flower gets its name NOT from the mythology of the boy who fell in love with his own reflection, but instead from the Greek word narkao: “to be numb.” Socrates called it “the Chaplet of the infernal Gods” because the bulbs if eaten, numbed the nervous system with their highly poisonous narcotic properties. Roman soldiers would carry bulbs of Narcissus papyraceus in their armor to benumb themselves during battle. The smell has had an intoxicating fascination for centuries, and it remains one of the most difficult and time-intensive aromas to capture - which is why Narcissus fragrances are so rare.

This year we planted hundreds of Narcissus papyraceus all over the eastern side of the garden to take advantage of the Spring sunrise. They inspired us to create a very limited-edition collection of soaps, a candle, and a milk bath - with a heady aroma that's rich, musky, and bright. We have combined the Narcissus papyraceus flower with Cinnamomum camphora, White Paperbark, Strawberry Eucalyptus, White Mugwort, and French Peppermint, anchored by oils of Babassu Seed, Olive, and Japanese Camellia.

The smell is heavenly!

I burned the candle first and my whole place smelled like gardenias! I use the soaps in my bathroom and they feel so natural and very moisturizing too. Last long as well! Can’t wait to test out the bath oil next!

So good, I bought multiple sets

The soaps leave your skin soft with a subtle spring smell. After I got my first set, I bought more. I broke up the sets to give gifts. I gave the soaps to my family and friends who love soaps and the candles to those that love candles. I kept the bath milks for myself.
