Our new heirloom Jamaica tea, or Hibiscus tea, is grown on small farms in coastal Oaxaca. We partnered with Masienda, a purveyor of rare, single-origin ingredients, to connect with a collection of small local farmers growing Hibiscus sabdariffa. Harvested among other traditional Milpa ingredients, this whole-flower heirloom Hibiscus is cultivated by families with an intimate connection to the land. Each flower is handpicked and slowly sun-dried with meticulous care by communities using traditional methods passed down through generations. The tea is crimson and delicious.

Heirloom whole-flower Hibiscus.
Usage / Instructions

Blanca’s recipe: To make a concentrate, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add ½ cup of dried hibiscus flowers and boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. Strain out the flowers and use in recipes. To serve Agua de Jamaica, add more water, ice, sugar to taste - we love it with lime. For tea, use 2 tsps of dried flowers in 1 cup of boiling water, let it steep for at least 5 minutes. Sweeten to taste.

The best hibiscus tea I’ve had!

Organic, whole flowers make for a concentrated and delicious tea! I used the infusion method.
